Undergraduate entry requirements
If you are leaving Senior Secondary School in China with a Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate or Chinese University Entrance Examination (Gaokao) you will need to take an additional course before being able to apply for an undergraduate course at York. This could be A levels, the International Baccalaureate or a recognised foundation course.

Postgraduate taught courses
For a postgraduate taught course such as a masters, you would normally need a bachelors degree from a recognised institution in a relevant subject. The score you will need depends on which university you attended in China and which subject you are applying to.

Pre-sessional language courses
We also offer a range of pre-sessional language courses which can be used for entry to degree-level courses.
These courses will provide you with the level of English needed to meet the conditions of your offer. You can apply online once you receive and accept your offer. These courses are popular, so apply early to avoid disappointment.

If you require a Tier 4 visa
In order to be granted a visa to study in the UK, you must meet the UK Home Office's minimum standard of English language (called B2 level). In most cases our departmental requirements are higher than the B2 level.
