Guidelines for Examinees
Graded Test for English Majors—Band 4
Oral Test
The oral test for the second-year English major is designed to assess your spoken English in different types of situations and on a wide variety of topics. It consists of three tasks, each involving a particular speech activity.
TaskⅠ: Retelling a story
The passage will be approximately 300 words long. It may be a story, accounts of experiences or anecdotes. You have to start your retelling immediately after you have heard the passage twice.
TaskⅡ: Talking on a given topic
A given topic is very often related to the general theme of the passage you have heard previously. For example, the passage may describe someone’s miserable life in his/her early childhood, and the topic you are required to talk about is one happy incident in your childhood. After you have heard the given topic spoken on the test tape twice, you have three minutes to prepare your talk. Your talk is limited to three minutes.
Task Ⅲ: Role-playing
The task involves two examinees. Each of you will get a sheet which contains a specific situation and a specified role you are expected to play. Although the situation is the same for the two examinees, your roles are different. For example, the given situation may be borrowing money. Student A wants to borrow 20 dollars from Student B. Student A must try all the best to persuade Student B must refuse A’s request with politeness. Your preparation time is three minutes. Your conversation is limited to four minutes.

2、 進入考場后，應(yīng)根據(jù)考號和第三個項目中即將扮演的角色對號入座。如有差錯，立即向監(jiān)考人員報告。
3、 對號入座后，用兩分鐘時間閱讀“考生須知”。
4、 考試共有3個項目。第一項是復(fù)述故事。要求考生先聽兩遍事先錄好的英文故事，可以記筆記，聽完錄音后復(fù)述3分鐘。第二項是即席講話?？忌鶕?jù)所給的題目，準備3分鐘后即席講話3分鐘。第三項是扮演角色?？忌鶕?jù)規(guī)定的情景和分配的角色獨自準備3分鐘，然后對話4分鐘。考生不得擅自提前拆閱這個部分的考題，準備對話過程中不得和對方討論，否則將被視為作弊。對話過程中應(yīng)給對方發(fā)言的機會，不得獨自占用過多的時間。講話過多或過少都將影響得分。
5、 錄音設(shè)備一律由監(jiān)考人員和電教人員操作，不得擅自擺弄。
6、 錄音時，應(yīng)適當(dāng)控制音量。音量太低將影響得分。
