1. absence of 缺乏 如：
In the absence of my commanding officer, I acted on my own initiative.
指揮官不在場(chǎng)，我主動(dòng)見機(jī)行事。
In the absence of their teacher the class was in a state of anarchy.
教師不在，班上一片混亂。
2.absence from 缺席，不在 如：
His long absence from work delayed his promotion.
他長(zhǎng)期不上班，耽誤了提升。
3. access to ……的入口，通路 如：
The only access to the farmhouse is across the fields.
要到那農(nóng)舍去唯有穿過田地。
She was forbidden access to the club.
人家不允許她到那個(gè)俱樂部去。
4. acquaintance with 相識(shí)，了解 如：
I have only a nodding acquaintance with Japanese.
我對(duì)日語僅略知一二。
The guide has some acquaintance with Italian.

6. addition to sth 增加 如：

7. admission to /into 進(jìn)入;入(場(chǎng)，學(xué)，會(huì)等) 如：
How does one gain admission to the Buckingham Palace?
怎樣才能獲準(zhǔn)進(jìn)入白金漢宮?
Admission to British universities depends on examination results.
英國(guó)大學(xué)入學(xué)以考試成績(jī)?yōu)閼{。
8. admission of sth 承認(rèn) 如：
His admission of guilt surprised everyone.
他供認(rèn)犯罪使大家感到意外。
The write of the letter is ipso facto an admission of guilt.
寫此信的本身就是一種認(rèn)罪。
9. advance in 改進(jìn),進(jìn)步，如：
an advance in genetic engineering
遺傳工程學(xué)方面的進(jìn)展

年紀(jì)增長(zhǎng)
10. advantage over 優(yōu)于……的有利條件 如：
Now we have won an advantage over the enemy.
