北京猿人，正式名稱為“中國猿人北京種”，現(xiàn)在在科學(xué)上常稱之為“北京直立人”，生活在距今大約70萬年前。遺址發(fā)現(xiàn)地位于北京市西南房山區(qū)周口店龍骨山。1927年開始在北京周口店龍骨山發(fā)現(xiàn)的距今約69萬年前的人類化石。他們已經(jīng)具備了人類的基本特征。北京猿人是研究人類起源的重要科學(xué)依據(jù)。

Peking Man, officially known as the "Sinanthropus Pekinensis", or more properly known as the "Homo Erectus Pekinensis", lived about 700,000 years ago. Their fossilized remains were discovered in Longgushan Mountain, Zhoukoudian, Fangshan District, insouthwestern Beijing. In 1927, the human fossils were discovered in Longgushan Mountain, Zhoukoudian, Beijing. About 690,000 years ago, this primitive being had taken on the basic human features. Peking Man serves as a major scientific basis for the study of the origin of human beings.
