惠特曼（1819-1892），生于紐約長(zhǎng)島，曾任教員、排字工人、記者等職。1855年出版詩集《草葉集》（Leaves of Grass），最初未獲好評(píng)。詩人自1856至1891年間不斷將《草葉集》修改增訂。
