條標(biāo)及其英譯（十）

六、用詞失當(dāng)（poor or wrong diction），如：
    第十八條 （應(yīng)用解釋部門）
    Article 18（Interpretative Department for Implementation of the Present Procedures）
    按：作為條標(biāo)，原文六個(gè)字不但已經(jīng)嚕蘇而且無法一目了然，已經(jīng)不妙。對上列譯文來說，可謂先天不足。然譯者還嫌原文不夠嚕蘇，把漢語條標(biāo)所無的“”這層含義硬塞進(jìn)英語條標(biāo)中來，使譯文的嚕蘇度（以字?jǐn)?shù)記）陡增了一倍——于心何忍？譯者對條標(biāo)如此缺乏信心，不如廢棄條標(biāo)，讓讀者只讀部門名稱外其長度僅條標(biāo)兩倍的第十八條條文本身：
    Article 18 The Leading Group for the Intake of Intelligence from Abroad of Shanghai Municipality shall be responsible for the interpretation of the implementation of the present Procedures

    在此條標(biāo)英譯遇難之際，必須從大處著眼，快刀斬亂麻，當(dāng)機(jī)立斷，挽救此條標(biāo)于危難之中，試譯如下：
    （1）Article 18（Interpretation）
    （2）Article 18（Who to Interpret）
    即使同一資料來源中另一同類條標(biāo)的下列譯文也要較本條條標(biāo)略勝一籌吧：
    Article 65（Interpretation of Actual Application）
    The Municipal Real Estate Administration shall be responsible for the interpretation of the actual application of the present Procedures.

    千萬別以為譯條標(biāo)乃雕蟲小計(jì)而輕心大意——其中學(xué)問大著呢，得多加小心，才不致敗下陣來。
