I offered to muck out the stables.
    對話
Danny: I've just had a great piece of luck.
Fred: Don't tell me you've won the lottery this week.
Danny: Not quite: I've got a free weekly riding lesson at the local riding stables.
Fred: I know you love horses. How did you manage that?
Danny: I offered to muck out the stables and to help groom the horses for four hours every week.
Fred: That's not a bad bargain. It won't be long before you're an accomplished horseman if you can keep the arrangement going for any length of time.
    Danny: That's my aim.
這一課有兩句須特別談?wù)劊篋on't tell me you've won the lottery、I offered to muck out the stables and help groom the horses。 Don't tell me (that) ... Sorry I'm late." "Don't tell me you were stuck in a traffic jam."(‘對不起,我遲到了。’ I've got a free weekly riding lesson at the local riding stables就是例子。 He ran the racing stables nearby(他經(jīng)營附近那個賽馬飼養(yǎng)場)。成語to close the stable(或barn)door after the horse has escaped(馬兒逃脫后才去關(guān)廄門)就有‘亡羊補牢,為時太晚’的意思。 Mucking out the pigsty is no pleasant task(打掃豬欄的工作并不有趣)。 (1) I groomed my horse carefully before the horse show(馬展前,我?guī)湍瞧ヱR用心梳洗一番)。(2) It takes her a lot of time every morning grooming her long hair(她每天早上花費不少時間去梳理她的長發(fā))。
