Botanic Gardens Sydney is Australia's oldest scientific institution and one of the world's leading botanic gardens.
Established in 1816, the Royal Botanic is an oasis of tranquillity and greenery in the heart of the city. Its foreshore walk provides magnificent views of the Harbour, Harbour Bridge, Opera House and city skyline.
Very creative and splendidly organized, the Royal Botanic is one of the major Sydney attractions luring many locals and international visitors. Palm forests populated with flying foxes, ponds with birdlife and decorative fish, exotic plants, flowers and works of art in stone, wood and metal, combined with a majestic landscape overlooking the harbour create a unique world.
The Spring Festival, 7 to 10 September, features a wide range of craft and horticultural stalls, plant sales, gardening advice from experts, open days at the Herbarium, gourmet food cafes, sculpture garden, guided tours and entertainment groups.
The Rose Garden comes into flower in late spring. It is at this time that the old varieties flower - the 'Roses in History' as well as some of the historic roses, the ancestors of the modern rose.

悉尼皇家植物園面積30公頃,于1816年在當(dāng)時(shí)總督Macquarie主持下建立,緊鄰悉尼歌劇院和中心商務(wù)區(qū)。受第一次世界大戰(zhàn)的影響植物園也經(jīng)歷了一段蕭條時(shí)期,直到1959年授予了“皇家”稱號后才逐步復(fù)蘇。
尤其是1986年Carrick Chambers教授成為第九任園長后,植物園建設(shè)取得廣泛支持,衛(wèi)星園Mount Tomah植物園和Mount Annan植物園分別于1987年和1988年開放,展覽溫室(Tropical Centre)1990年建成。在他擔(dān)任園長的十年期間,建成園區(qū)還有1988年開放的月季園、1993年開放的蕨類植物區(qū)(The Fernery)和1994年開放的草本植物園。之后1997年建成的東方花園(Oriental Garden)和1998年珍稀瀕危植物區(qū)進(jìn)一步豐富了植物園的觀賞內(nèi)容,每年吸引了300多萬游客來參觀。
