由于中國(guó)的高考獨(dú)木橋使得無(wú)數(shù)優(yōu)秀學(xué)子在被大學(xué)錄取時(shí)，無(wú)法進(jìn)入心儀的專業(yè)就讀，而不少大學(xué)應(yīng)屆畢業(yè)生在參加工作時(shí)，也沒(méi)有選擇自己就讀的專業(yè)領(lǐng)域，因此長(zhǎng)久以來(lái)，中國(guó)學(xué)生和家長(zhǎng)對(duì)申請(qǐng)大學(xué)的專業(yè)并不在意。甚至有些家長(zhǎng)存在這樣的觀念：“不管讀什么專業(yè)，只要孩子能上就好！”其實(shí)帶著這種觀念在進(jìn)入美國(guó)大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)，恰恰會(huì)讓孩子學(xué)得事倍功半。
啟德教育美國(guó)項(xiàng)目總監(jiān)、資深教育顧問(wèn)張索娃分析說(shuō)：“在美國(guó)大眾的普遍觀念里，大學(xué)教育只是實(shí)現(xiàn)未來(lái)職業(yè)規(guī)劃的一個(gè)途徑，拿本科文憑并非終目的。雖然美國(guó)大學(xué)實(shí)施通才教育，在大學(xué)前兩年只學(xué)習(xí)基礎(chǔ)課程，并不要求馬上確定專業(yè)，但如果要求轉(zhuǎn)系，如從文科轉(zhuǎn)理科或從工科轉(zhuǎn)商科，肯定會(huì)造成一定學(xué)分的浪費(fèi)，也就是孩子學(xué)費(fèi)和時(shí)間的浪費(fèi)。”因此她建議說(shuō)，一旦中國(guó)學(xué)生確定去美國(guó)讀大學(xué)，專業(yè)宜早確定，而且好根據(jù)學(xué)生的興趣愛(ài)好和未來(lái)職業(yè)發(fā)展計(jì)劃來(lái)選擇。
同時(shí)，選專業(yè)要注重技巧。從前文中可以看出，金融專業(yè)畢業(yè)生的就業(yè)“錢”景頗佳，但正因如此，選擇該專業(yè)的優(yōu)秀學(xué)生也非常多。每年美國(guó)大學(xué)金融專業(yè)的錄取競(jìng)爭(zhēng)都異常激烈。而中國(guó)學(xué)生比起其他金融體系發(fā)達(dá)國(guó)家的學(xué)生來(lái)說(shuō)，對(duì)于金融服務(wù)領(lǐng)域的了解并不多，真正有豐富工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)和專業(yè)知識(shí)的更少之又少，因此申請(qǐng)難度比較大。但如果選擇申請(qǐng)數(shù)學(xué)專業(yè)，同樣可以進(jìn)入金融行業(yè)就職，中國(guó)學(xué)生在這方面的優(yōu)勢(shì)就大多了。
