    put （someone） through （someone's） paces, means to cause to demonstrate ability or skill; test.是指使…表現(xiàn)能力或技術(shù)；考驗(yàn)的意思。例如：
    The drama coach put her students through their paces before the first performance.
    這位戲劇老師要她的學(xué)生們表演前接受考查。
    put （someone） up to, means to cause to commit a funny, mischievous, or malicious act.是指作惡作劇使（某人）做出滑稽的、惡作劇的或惡毒的行為的意思。例如：
    My older brother put me up to making a prank telephone call.
    我大哥讓我打了一個惡作劇的電話。
    put the bite on, means to ask another for money.是指向別人要錢的意思。
    put the finger on, means to inform on.是指告發(fā)的意思。例如：
    The witness put the finger on the killer.
    目擊者告發(fā)了謀殺者。
