up to date，update，to date
這三個詞看來相似，也有關連，但涵義及用法截然不同。
Up to date（或 up-to-date）是形容詞，可作定語或表語，解作“新式的”、“現(xiàn)代的”、“到目前為止最新的（latest）”。例：
On the outskirts of the city，we saw many up-to-date bungalows．
在市郊，我們看到很多新型的平房。
Bring the ledger up to date．
把最新近的賬目記在賬本上。
The exhibition featured many most up-to-date inventions．
展覽會的特色是眾多的最新發(fā)明品。
Up to date也可用作解考試大“獲最新資訊”，如：
I'll keep you up to date with any news．
我有最新消息就讓你知道。
I am very up to date in terms of economic trends．
我對經濟趨勢的認識絕不落伍。
Update一般作動詞用，也可用作名詞，意為“更新”、“使跟上最新近的發(fā)展”，相當于to bring…up to date，如：
His job is to update the ledgers．
他的工作是更新賬簿上的賬目。
The radio broadcasts news updates every hour．
電臺每小時播出最新新聞。
To date是狀語，意為“直至目前為止”（up to the present moment）。用法如下：
Only two have handed in their application forms to date．
到目前為止，只有兩個人交來了申請表格。
To date，the government has spent billions of dollars on the project．
至現(xiàn)時，政府已為該項工程花費了數十億元。
值得留意的是：因為to date是指從以往到現(xiàn)今的一段時間，主句的動詞要用完成時態(tài)。
