美國(guó)的總統(tǒng)競(jìng)選每四年，獲勝者是在共和黨和民主黨兩個(gè)大黨中產(chǎn)生。因?yàn)榇簏h的候選人有著本黨忠實(shí)信徒支持這一關(guān)鍵的優(yōu)勢(shì)。
總統(tǒng)候選人的活動(dòng)講究戰(zhàn)略，候選人想盡力突出表現(xiàn)自己強(qiáng)有力的的形象，但選民們是否接受他們則要看外在的因素而不是他們的個(gè)人魅力。候選人的策略受很多因素的影響，重要的因素是在擁有人口多的州取勝。
