2004年9月14日，第59屆聯(lián)合國大會在紐約聯(lián)合國總部開幕。聯(lián)合國秘書長安南以及來自191個成員國的代表出席了開幕式。本屆聯(lián)大將從21日開始為期兩周的一般性辯論。預(yù)計97個國家的元首或政府首腦將在辯論中發(fā)言，就多邊主義、聯(lián)合國作用及其改革、千年發(fā)展目標(biāo)的落實情況、打擊國際恐怖主義、裁軍與防擴散等重大國際問題闡述各自政府的立場。
