Ahmadinejad -- Iran will Press Ahead with Nuclear Work
Iran's president has again vowed that his country will press ahead with its nuclear program, and said the U.N. resolution imposing sanctions on Iran is "invalid." Speaking at a gathering in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz Tuesday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said "the Iranian nation will stick to its nuclear program and is ready to defend it." He said the U.N. resolution against Iran's nuclear program "has no validity for Iranians."
The U.N. Security Council last month voted unanimously to impose sanctions on Iran's trade in sensitive nuclear material and technology in an effort to persuade Tehran to stop enriching uranium -- the process that could produce weapons grade material.
Iran insists its atomic program is for peaceful purposes. Soon after the U.N. sanctions resolution was passed, Iran's parliament passed a bill asking the government to review its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
