"Youth House" in Copenhagen Being Demolished
A century-old building at the center of recent rioting by evicted squatters in Copenhagen, Denmark is being demolished.
Crews began tearing down the so-called "Youth House" in the capital's Noerrebro neighborhood as scores of youths watched from behind police barriers. Some of the young people wept, others shouted in protest, but police say there has been no repeat of the violence that plagued Copenhagen for three nights after authorities cleared the building of squatters.
Police say they arrested more than 650 people, many of them foreigners, from Thursday through Saturday nights.
The owners of the building say it was heavily vandalized and posed a dangerous health hazard. They obtained a court order last year to clear the dilapidated structure of squatters.
