Making a Model Television
1. Why did I make a model television?
The reasons why I made a model television was that my teacher, Mr. Rich, required us to read a book and made a piece of art to present that story last year. A model television appealed to me because I thought it was more interesting than any other artistic ideas such as collage, puppet show, dress up and song etc. I must use my mind and my hands to do it. I loved to create things, especially to make movies or television programs.
2. What materials did I need when I made the model television?
Before I started working on my project, I prepared some necessary materials or tools such as medium-sized cardboard box, scissors, tape, glue, construction paper, crayons and dowels.
First of all, I cut out the front of a cardboard box as television screen. And the next, I cut two large round holes on both sides of the box. Of course, I couldn't cut the box by myself because I was not strong enough to do it, so my dad helped me. And then, I selected ten beautiful scenes from the book to show my story "The Bears on Hemlock Mountain". I drew them on the construction paper with crayons. In the end, I taped these pieces of construction paper together lengthwise.
When all these work were done, I began to embark on my model television. The first thing to do is place the construction paper in the box and put two dowels through the round holes on each side of the box. Secondly, I taped the each end of the paper to the dowels and turn the dowels to change the scenes. Finally and more importantly, I decorated the television with my parents. I put some pieces of black paper and several stickers on the television frame with glue because I thought it would be ugly if I didn't do that. Now it looked wonderful and fantastic. This was how I completed my model television.
3. What did I get from making the model television?
It was my first time to make the model television and I got "A" grade for my art project which was also the best in my class. And the most important thing is that I made it by myself with my parents' help. I think if it had not been done by myself, no matter how great it was, it would have meant nothing. I was so proud of myself!
4. How many art projects have I made?
I have made three art projects such as car design, collage so far, but I like the model television best.
What can you get from making models?
5. Do you prefer making model television or designing car?
I prefer making model television than designing car because making model television is more complicated and interesting. I can show the model television to my friends like television program. I can tell the story while I am moving the scenes. And not everyone can do it. It is so amazing!
