I was fed up with work and wanted the day off. I decided to call in sick. I wasn't prepared, though, to be peppered with questions.
我厭倦了工作，我想請一天假。于是我決定打電話請病假。然而迎接我的卻是接二連三的發(fā)問，我一點兒準備都沒有。
Peter: Hello, this is Peter. Is this Magda?
彼得： 你好，我是彼得。是瑪格達嗎？
Magda: Yes. This is Magda.
瑪格達： 是的。我是瑪格達。
Peter: Hi, Magda. I won't be coming in today. I'm not feeling well. I think I've come down with something.
彼得： 嗨，瑪格達。我今天不去公司了。我感覺不太舒服。我想我生病了。
Magda: Hmm, what seems to be the problem?
瑪格達： 嗯，生了什么病？
Peter: The problem? Oh…I've been up all night throwing up and I feel terrible.
彼得： 什么病？哦，我昨晚不停地起床嘔吐，感覺很難受。
Magda: Didn't you have something like this two weeks ago when you called in sick?
瑪格達 ：你兩星期前打電話請病假時不就是這種情況嗎？
Peter: Two weeks ago? No, I had food poisoning two weeks ago.
彼得： 兩星期前？不，兩星期前是食物中毒。
Magda: And what about a month ago when you called in sick?
瑪格達： 那么一個月前你打電話請病假是怎么回事？
Peter: That was a 24-hour bug.
彼得： 那次也是生病，不過當天就好了。
Magda: Didn't you just take a day off from work because of a death in the family?
瑪格達： 你還因為家人去世而請過一天假，不是嗎？
Peter: Yes, I had to go to the funeral.
彼得： 是的，我必須去參加葬禮。
Magda: I see. That's one day off from work a week, four weeks in a row.
瑪 格達： 我明白了。你每個星期都請了一天假，而且是連續(xù)四周。
Peter: Uh, I'll be in within the hour.
彼得 ：啊，我一小時之內(nèi)就趕過去。
Magda: I'm glad you've had a miraculous recovery.
瑪格達： 很高興你奇跡般地康復(fù)了。
