    (FX – Rocket engines)
William: And I’m William Kremer. Are the turbo time thrusters engaged, Feifei?
Feifei: Check. And how about the intergalactic light shift drive?
William: It’s on maximum! OK, are you ready?! We’re coming in to land!
(FX – Massive crash. Dust settling. Time machine atmos.)
William: Well, I think that went quite well.
So shall we open the spaceship doors and find out where we are in the universe?
    William: And when we are.
(FX – Doors opening. Street noise.)
    Feifei: Hmm,
    William: Hi. Excuse me.
    Woman: Yes?
William: Could you tell me what planet this is?
Woman: What planet? Is this some kind of joke?
William: No, no, not a joke, good creature –
    Feifei: What year is this?
Woman: What do you think? 2010 of course!
William: Well, I don't know. I followed the instructions precisely.
William: Yes, Alice writes, "I've known that Doctor Who is a British science fiction TV series produced by the BBC, which has been popular for many years. It has a great effect on British people's life, so I really want to get more information about it. Thanks a lot!"
    Feifei: Doctor who?
William: That's right, Doctor Who, that's the name of the main character and of the programme, Doctor Who. And Alice is quite right that British people love this BBC TV series, which started in 1963. And one of the things that people particularly love is the theme tune:

Man: I like the Ooooh oooh ooh.
    Journalist: Anything else?
    Man: Wooo-ooo. Wooo-ooo-oooo.
The Doctor.
    Insert
There's a Time Lord and he never dies, or he does die and he turns into a new doctor each sort of season. He always has a companion who's a human and they go back and forth through time defeating evil people.
William: Doctor Who is a Time Lord. He never dies, but he does sometimes turn into a new doctor. So far there have been eleven different Doctor Whos, played by different actors.
Doctor Who has a companion who is human,
William: Yes and Doctor Who and his companion go back and forth through time.

    (FX – Time machine atmos.)
William: Let's find out more about Doctor Who's time machine.
Feifei: Time machine 時(shí)光機(jī)。Doctor Who 的時(shí)光機(jī)的名字是The Tardis.
    Insert
So it's the Tardis which looks like a telephone box – or it's a police telephone box – so it looks small on the outside but huge on the inside.
William: The Tardis looks like a police telephone box.
William: Yes, and there's a funny reason for having such a strange time machine. Let's listen to the current executive producer and lead writer on the series Doctor Who, Stephen Moffat.

As I keep saying, look, you know that police box Tardis, that's the most creativelymanaged budget cut in history. It was meant to be a sphere, it was meant to be a mysterious door. They couldn't afford anything, they had a police box. So they made a box bigger on the inside than on the outside and came up with the best idea in fiction ever, in my slightly biased view.
William: Stephen Moffat describes the Tardis as the most creatively-managed budget cut in history.

Feifei: Is Doctor Who a children's programme, William?
William: Well Stephen Moffat has something very interesting to say about that too. Let's listen:
    Insert
The entire audience isn't eight or ten years old but everyone who watches that show properly is watching it as an eight or a ten year old, surely. It's meant to turn you into a child.
William: The entire audience isn't eight or ten years old but everyone watches that show properly is watching it as an eight or a ten year old.
Feifei: Stephen said, it's meant to turn you into a child
(FX – Rocket engines starting up.)
    Feifei: Er, William, what's happening?
William: It looks like our own time machine is getting ready for lift off again,
Feifei. We'd better say goodbye now!
    William: Bye bye!
