Twenty-two years have gone by since I was choosing schools for my daughter. There were many fine schools in the area where we lived, but my final decision was Adam's Spanish Immersion Magnet School, which uses Spanish in their teaching process.
Why? Well, it was a new school; her class was the sixth graduating class. The class was small, but it had students from different races and social backgrounds. When my daughter attended the school, it had a language program for parents and a middle school program with a local school called Highland Jr. Sr. High School, which my daughter attended later.
I also believe that learning a second language broadens your social outlook. develops your problem solving skills, and is an advantage when it comes to career choices; mastering a second language can bnng a higher salary, as well as credits for further education choices. And Spanish is likely to become the second most-widely spoken language in the world in the near future.
The program at Adam's begins by immersing (便沉浸在) the kids in the language from the first day, and the students do learn quickly. This immersion lasts until the second grade when they have their first English lessons. The English lessons continue from there. At Highland Jr. Sr. High School for Grades 7 through 10, there are math, science and Spanish language arts classes, all taught in Spanish.
I can't say enough good things about the program at Adam's. There are native Spanish speakers from around Spain and Somh America, and American-born teachers who, of course, are more than fluent in the Spanish language. Their attitude was friendly and loving towards the kids. My daughter, now 28, loved those years. To this day, Spanish is part of her life and further education; she speaks it with friends and to her four children. I sincerely believe that my choice all those years ago has raised in my daughter a quest for knowledge and education, and a better understanding of the world.(詞數(shù):338)

1Historically speaking, the title of "gentleman" was only given to those of noble birth: men
whose significant wealth came from inheritance (維承) rather than work. Over time and with the
many social changes of the last couple of centuries, the term widened to include men of
independent fortune without nobility and eventually became a polite term for all men. In modern
times, the world is used as a measure of a person's conduct rather than their financial or social
standing.
So what does it mean to be a gemleman in the 21st century? Primarily, it means supporting a
superior standard of conduct. This is not a suggestion to feel superior to other people; rather it
implies being considerate (體貼的 ). polite and calm. By remaining calm in a difficult situation, the gentleman spreads a feeling of security and
confidence in those around him. In turn, this opens up the possibility of a positive outcome by
mutual agreement and cooperation. The rewards for such an activity are obvious: not only does the
gentleman gain the respect of all involved, but also the reputation of being a reliable and solid
influence.
Honesty and fair play are some of the features of a real gentleman. A firm belief in equality
of the sexes and all races is the basic building block of respect. The gentleman should never seek
an unfair advantage over an opponent in competition, but instead should try his utmost to achieve
the best he can at all times.
Being polite and showing respect are, of course, the essence (本質(zhì)) of being a gentleman. By
his exercising a polite and friendly attitude, tense situations can be handled with ease and all
parties involved get to express their beliefs and concerns, leading to a deeper understanding for
everyone.
Above all, I bclieve the question of what being a gentleman means can be answered by
quoting one of my closest friends: "A gentleman always tries to make sure that the other person
