Mr Hill: Good afternoon. I believe that this house is for sale.

Mr West: That’s right.

Mr Hill: May I have a look at it please?

Mr West: Yes, of course. Come in.

Mr Hill: How long have you lived here?

Mr West: I have lived here for twenty years.

Mr Hill: Twenty years! That’s a long time.

Mr West: Yes, I have been here since 1947.

Mr Hill: Then why do you want to sell it?
奈杰爾：那么，您為什么要賣掉它呢？
Mr West: Because I have just retired. I want to buy a small house in the country.

Mr Hill: How much does this house cost?

Mr West: ￡6850.

Mr Hill: That’s a lot of money!

Mr West: It’s worth every penny of it.

Mr Hill: Well, I like the house, but I can’t decide yet. My wife must see it first.

Mr West: Women always have the last word.

2 May I..?是一種比較正式的表示請求的句型。其中的may有““請求允許”的意思。
3 It's worth every penny of it.
有強(qiáng)調(diào)的意思。后一向的一個(gè)it是指剛才提到的那筆錢。全句的意思是:“你支付出的每一個(gè)便士都是劃算的”，可以譯成:”它確實(shí)值這么多錢。”
4 I can't decide yet.我還不能決定。句中的yet常用在否定句中，表示“迄今仍未”的意思。
5 My wife must see it first.我的妻子必須先來看一看。其中的must當(dāng)“必須”講。
