( 三 ) 英語思維能力
是否擁有英語思維能力其實是決定一個人的英語水平是否到達一定層次的重要因素。記得中學時學過一篇講馬克思如何學外語的課文，至今仍然給我很深印象的就是馬克思提到，當你想學好一門外語的時候，重要的一點就是“… learn how to think in that language ．”這其實也就是我們平常所說的英語思維能力。那么如何培養(yǎng)英語思維能力呢 ? 我覺得首先應該改變我們的思維習慣，也就是說，改變初學習英語時那種將碰到的所有英語都先翻譯成漢語的習慣。其實這一點與上面提到的熟悉句子結(jié)構(gòu)也有著密切的聯(lián)系，因為當我們熟悉了句子結(jié)構(gòu)，克服了以單詞為反應單位的習慣之后，我們就能自然而然地放棄初那種首先把單詞都翻譯成中文再去理解句意的做法，而會因為對整體句子的把握而直接抓住句子的意思。www.Ｅxamda.CoM
另一個與英語思維能力有著密切關(guān)系的要素是語感。我們在學習英語的過程中常常會聽別人說語感對一個人英語水平的影響，“語感”這種東西說起來有點玄，也似乎難以說清楚它是一種什么東西，但它確實又能使一門語言真正在你的腦海里活起來。語感的培養(yǎng)甚至比語法知識的積累更顯得讓人難以把握。但其實說到底，只要你對英語足夠熟悉，“語感”也就自然而然地形成了。我們?nèi)撕腿酥g會“日久生情”，對一門語言也是同樣吧。要熟悉一門語言，我們無非也就是通過多讀、多寫、多聽來實現(xiàn)。朗讀文章就是培養(yǎng)語感的很好的途徑之一。我認為除了我們用作教材的《大學英語》以外，《新概念》的第三冊就是一部很好的朗讀材料，這是因為里面的文章長短適中，有一定難度，選詞考究，更主要的是它的語句結(jié)構(gòu)都非常規(guī)范，對語感的培養(yǎng)非常有幫助。下面一篇文章就是選自這本書。這篇文章里出現(xiàn)的都是常用的單詞，句式也不復雜，但意思的表達卻十分完整，非常符合提高聽力能力的要求。

Editors of newspapers and magazines often go to extremes to provide their readers with unimportant facts and statistics. Last year a journalist had been instructed by a well-known magazine to write an article on the president's palace in a new African republic. When the article arrived, the editor read the first sentence and then refused to publish it. The article began: ‘Hundreds of steps lead to the high wall which surrounds the president's palace. 'The editor at once sent the journalist a fax instructing him to find out the exact number of steps and the height of the wall.
The journalist immediately set out to obtain these important facts, but he took a long time to send them. two more faxes, but received no reply. He sent yet another fax informing the journalist that if he did not reply soon he would be fired. When the journalist again failed to reply, the editor reluctantly published the only had the poor man been arrested, but he had been sent to prison as well. However, he had at last been allowed to send a fax in which he informed the editor that he had been arrested while counting the 1, 084 steps leading to the fifteen-foot wall which surrounded the president's palace.
