Almost 100 people lost their lives and nearly 800 were injured when a tornado and hailstorm hit Jiangsu province last week. Xinhua reported that the tornado struck near Yancheng around 2:30 pm on June 23. It destroyed houses, *flattened trees and *flipped cars. Tornadoes are not common in China, and many victims were caught unaware. The heavy *casualties were partly caused by the lack of underground *bunkers and early warning systems.
據新華社報道，6月23日下午2點30分左右，江蘇省鹽城地區(qū)遭遇龍卷風冰雹災害，造成近100人遇難，800人受傷。龍卷風冰雹摧毀房屋、壓倒樹木、掀翻車輛。龍卷風在我國并不常見，很多受害者都沒有充分的準備。造成嚴重人員傷亡的部分原因在于缺乏地下掩體以及早期預警系統(tǒng)。
